The Determined to Shine Community Cookbook

Have you heard the news? We’re creating a Determined to Shine cookbook – full of recipes, art, and inspiration by YOU!

If you missed it, here’s the original video announcement from Facebook Live:

Why are we making a cookbook? If you participate in Determined to Shine’s Facebook groups, you may have noticed that we’re a little different. Despite having nearly 7,000 members, we are negativity-free. We support each other. Encourage each other. Share with each other.

This community cookbook project will help us do that on an entirely new level! By sharing our favorite recipes with each other, we can take that support from the craft room to the kitchen. For those who love to cook, this will be an exciting way to share your gift with others. And for those who don’t, or who have complicated relationships with food and cooking, this project can be a great stepping stone on that road to healing.

In addition to our favorite recipes, the cookbook will also be full of gorgeous art from Determined to Shine community members, as well as kitchen-themed art journaling tips and inspirational quotes

Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of location.  Some countries use different units of measurement. Conversion information will be included in the cookbook so everyone can easily try all included recipes.

To enter your recipes, visit Log in using username “determinedtoshine” and password “recipes”

You can also submit recipes by emailing them to with the subject line “Cookbook Recipe Submission.” If you email a photo or scan of your recipes, please make sure that all text is visible and legible. Please also make sure to include your first and last name as you’d like it to appear in the cookbook.

Submitting your recipes early helps greatly – please consider sending in your recipes as soon as you can.

We’ll be using artwork from Determined to Shine students and community members on the cookbook cover, as well as the dividers and possibly other interior pages of the cookbook.

Art can be any theme or medium, but it must be 100% owned and created by you. If you are submitting a collage, please make sure that you own the copyright to all included images (or that you have permission from the copyright owner). ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE.

To submit your art, email a photo to with the subject line “Cookbook Art Submission.”

Note that we have limited space for artwork. We’ll include as much as we can, but cannot promise to use everything submitted. Priority is given to early submissions, so don’t wait to send in your artwork.

If chosen, I’ll respond via email and ask you to provide a scan of your artwork at 8″ tall at 300 DPI.

Do you have a favorite inspirational quote or kitchen-inspired art journaling tip? Email them to with the subject line “Cookbook Extras Submission.”

The final cost of the cookbook will depend on the number of contributors and recipes received. I estimate that the book will be no more than $15. This project is about creating something amazing for all of you, and I will keep the cost to purchase the book as low as possible.

There will be an additional shipping charge based on actual cost. Shipping charges will vary depending on your location. Orders are open to everyone, regardless of where in the world you live.

You may order as many copies as you like. The cookbook makes a great gift for anyone who enjoys cooking and/or art journaling. Plan ahead for birthday and holiday gifts.

Ordering will begin on or around February 10.  Orders will be taken using a preorder system. Part of keeping costs low is ordering only the number of books that you have preordered. You’ll place your order before printing has begun, and your book will be shipped out after we receive it from the printer (1-3 months). We will not be ordering many additional books, so you MUST preorder in order to be guaranteed a copy.

Any questions?

Email and I will get back to you as soon as I can! <3
